Availability
The Japanese DVDs are quite hard to get, despite the fact that they were released at the same time as other countries' DVD releases.

You occasionally see full sets of 6 discs for sale that were rental copies, but the cost of these are often several hundred pounds sterling and they do disappear fairly quickly, despite the cost.

Individual volumes in new condition often retail for a couple of hundred pounds each; even for the readily-available volumes 1 and 2.
Volumes beyond 3-6 almost never appear individually.

I started off by collecting the first volumes individually, wherever they became affordably available.

In the end, I saw a full set of 6 retail volumes, in mint condition, for £200 on FROM JAPAN, which, in 2 years of looking, I'd never seen.
So I was pretty quick in buying that sucker out.

Picture Quality
Picture-wise, the Japanese DVDs are much the same as the English-language ones. The only difference is that the brightness is slightly higher and colours paler.
As a result, the detail in dark areas of the picture is easier to make out.
